Creating a Hard disk file:
To set up SheepShaver and install a Mac OS you will need an empty hard disk
file. Download a 500 Mb empty Hard disk
file here. You have to unrar and unzip the file.
You can create one yourself using HFV Explorer. You can get it here:
HFV-Explorer (it's a file that self-extracts with automated installation)
So install HFV Explorer and start it. This is what it looks like:

-Click File, then Format New Volume

-Enter a name for the volume (this name will show up in MacOS as the name of
the hard disk
-Choose a volume size.
-Enter a path to a place where you want to save the hard disk file. (besides
your SheepShaver executable would be a good place)
-Click OK. The volume will be created.
Getting a ROM image:
You can obtain a rom file from a mac your own, or download a Mac rom update
from Apple and extract the rom file.

Editing the SheepShaver_prefs file
SheepShaver uses a file called "SheepShaver_prefs" to store your
settings. It is located in the same directory the executable is situated.
If the file does not exist, a first run of sheepshaver will create it. Best to
do that now, although SheepShaper will not yet work. But we need the config file
You will have to edit this file to tell SheepShaver where to look for your
hard disk file, the rom file and a cdrom to install from.
(keywords are in bold for clarity, you don't have to actually make them
bold)
Now you can do this in two ways:
-Follow the guide below
-Download this nifty
Sheep_GUI to
edit the file with greater ease.
So you add:
disk SheepHD.hfv
(enter the name of
the hard disk file you created in Installation,
including the path to the file if it isn't in the directory with SheepShaver.exe)
cdrom h:\
(enter the drive letter of your cd rom drive or enter the path and name of .iso
file containing the Mac OS eg: c:\SheepShaver\MacOS.iso)
rom Mac OS ROM
(enter the name of the rom
file you extracted, including the path to the file if it isn't in the directory
with SheepShaver.exe)
and while your at it, increase the standard ramsize to 32 mb, so you don't get
into trouble installing Mac OS 9.
ramsize 33554432
The latest SheepShaver downloads already contain the files mentioned below,
so you don't have to download them
To prevent an error with the keyboard keys 3 and 5 download this file :
BasiliskII_keycodes and place it along
with the other files
then change the line:
keycodes false to keycodes true
Save the file and place your cd in the drive you just specified.
To prevent problems with reading cdrom's download the
cdenable.sys file and place it in you
windows/system32 directory
Now you are ready to install Mac OS
So start SheepShaver by clicking the executable and wait for the Mac OS to
start loading
Now go to Using SheepShaver for some information on how to handle the Mac OS
To have more control over your SheepShaver environment, go to
