| Teaching and Teacher Education |
The Teaching and Teacher Education division is focused on research and development activities in the areas of teacher cognition, teacher behaviour, and the pre-service and in-service education of teachers.
This
division has about 100 members who meet each other at least twice a year.
Scientific as well as practical implications of recent research on teaching and
teacher education are discussed during these meetings. These discussions are
structured around a yearly chosen theme (examples of such themes are the
‘assessment of teachers’ and ‘teacher learning’). Usually researchers
are invited to present their research followed by comments of a practitioner who
works in a related field. The reverse also occurs: a presentation by someone
from practice is followed by comments of a researcher. During the meetings there
is always much room for the audience to participate in the discussions.
Along with this core activity, the division also contributes to the scientific
programme of the NERA annual conference. During this conference members of the
division present their research. Members of the division also contribute to
conferences of international research associations, such as the American
Educational Research Association (AERA), the European Educational Research
Association (EERA), the European Association for Learning and Instruction (EARLI),
and the International Study Association on Teachers and Teaching (ISATT).
The division’s Newsletter, written in Dutch language, which appears twice a
year, provides the division members with a broad range of information, for
example: announcements and reports of national and international conferences,
interviews with researchers, and abstracts of recently published dissertations.
A small editorial team is responsible for the Newsletter. They are informed by
so-called correspondents from different universities in the Netherlands.
