"Why constructivist teaching does not work"
EARLI Symposium

Budapest, Hungary - August 28, 2007. One of the earliest sessions at the EARLI-conference was a symposium on constructivist teaching and learning. This symposium was organized by John Sweller, Richard Clark, Paul Ayres, and Paul Kirschner and presided by Jeroen van Merriënboer. Speakers were John Sweller, Sean Early, Paul Ayres, and Paul Kirschner. Discussant was Alexander Renkl. The interest for this symposium was overwhelming. The symposium room turned out to be too small, so speakers and audience went to an adjacent bigger room. However, this room also proved to be inadequate with regard to size and as a result people had to stand and sit in the corridors, the doorway, and eventually almost 'intertwined' with the speakers. Paul Kirschner shot some nice pictures of this remarkable start of the EARLI-conference 2007.
