With more than 130 members, the division of Vocational Education and Training, Human Resource Development, and Adult Education is one of the largest divisions within NERA. Its main aim is to promote high quality research in these three fields. Amongst other professional associations, the division is connected to the Vocational Education and Training Network (VETNET) and the European Educational Research Association (EERA). Its members are researchers and research-oriented practitioners in the fields of VET, HRD and Adult Education. The Division organises symposia, conferences, forum discussions and working visits for its members. In BBV-Bulletin it has its own biannual magazine (in Dutch language).
Research themes covered by the division include, amongst others, the following:
Relationships between learning and working (e.g., lifelong learning, learning in self-managing teams, personal development planning, mentoring and coaching, portfolio building);
Competence development, employability, knowledge management, accreditation of prior learning; Design and development of learning and training systems;
Organisation of learning and training (e.g., apprenticeship, problem based learning, self-directed learning, constructive and reflective learning);
Changing roles of teachers, trainers, and educators; Personal and organisation development; Application of multimedia, distance education, and Internet;
Evaluation and assessment of (new ways of) learning and training.
