Short Bio
My interest is in electronic media for learning and teaching.
In the 80's I got involved in educational film, video and tv. I specialised in screenwriting, directing and production. Gradually, interaction design became predominant and I got involved in simulations and multimedia. In 2008, I started a new R&D Programme on Learning Media at the Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies of the Open University of the Netherlands. The research concerns new modes of learning and teaching that come within reach through new digital media technologies. The Learning Media Programme focuses on three types of media
:

  • Immersive Media
Rich and complex absorbing media that produce valuable (learning) experiences. These media include games, virtual worlds and simulations.
  • Social Media
Tools and services that reflect the Web 2.0 wave, fostering user-generated content, mashups and many more way of putting the user at the center.
  • Mobile Media
Portable devices which can benefit from flexible cross-media delevery and the contextualisation of learning through location-based ambiances.
